The Colorado Children’s Healthcare Access Program is a non-profit organization devoted to ensuring that every child enrolled in Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) receives comprehensive healthcare from a primary care provider—a “medical home.”

The demographics of Colorado's children

  • 1/3 of Colorado's children live in low income households (less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level)
  • 2/3 of low income children are in a racial or ethnic minority family.
  • Over 1/3 of the children in the seven Metro Denver counties (as well as the whole state) are from a culture other than their provider's: Hispanic, African-American, Native-American or Asian-American.
  • Racial and ethnic minorities are the most rapidly growing group of children in Colorado.
  • Low income children and minority children have greater difficulty accessing health care and have poorer health outcomes than other groups of children.

The Mission of our Learning Community:

Our understanding of the special healthcare needs of racial and ethnic minority children and the needs of children in low income families is evolving.  The health care literature on this topic is expanding. And many healthcare providers have considerable personal experience in meeting the needs of these children.  They have also expressed the need to learn more and share ideas.  This site provides a forum for Colorado's child healthcare providers to share information and insights.
